Hi, I'm having that error message come up too. It is a FCP Projet I'm exporting.
The message is:
Unable to parse FCP XML file to obtain project information
Suggestions:
- Ensure that the file is not locked by another application and is readable;
- Ensure that this is a valid FCP XML file from a released version of FCP X;
- Ensure that this is the export of a Project, not of an Event;
- Ensure that this is not an empty project (or that all audio is disabled);

Thanks for your suggestions and help

There is something wrong in the project section of the XML that you sent, can you try re-exporting but as a V1.7 XML and see whether that works. You could also try to re-import the exported XML into a new Library in FCP and see whether it actually imports, I suspect that it may not.

Thanks for the quick response. I've attached the project XML which X2Pro keeps rejecting. Let me know if you find anything.

Thanks!!

The message suggests that the xml that you have exported is not one of a project. Make sure that you have the project selected and then export an xml. If you are sure that it is a project then post the xml for us to look at.

If anyone could help with this I'd be so appreciative! Trying to use an FCP XML 1.8 with X2PRO 4.2.2 - Any ideas? It's instantly coming up with "Unable to parse FCP XML file to obtain project information"

I'm having a similar issue. FCPX is up to date. 10.3.4.

I just downloaded X2Pro, so I am assuming that is also updated.

Below is copy/paste of the error. Interestingly, i don't get this error with the XML from the 2 minute trailer or this project which uses many of the same tracks, but the much longer, full piece isn't working. It makes the thing there is a certain track that is causing the failure. thoughts? Audio guy is sitting around waiting on this. Urgent help required.

If you have just upgraded your copy of FCPX to the one released on Friday then please check the appstore for the X2Pro upgrade released today, this is required to read the XML output from the new FCPX version (10.1.2)

Hi I am trying to get an XML out of FCPX and into X2Pro.
All the media is consolidated in the library with the project in it.
I highlight the project only and export XML.
Every time I run the XML through X2Pro I get this error message (see attached picture also):

Unable to parse FCP XML file to obtain project information

Details:
Parse of /Volumes/Seagate Backup Plus Drive/FCPX Libraries/Inheritance/Inheritance whole1-6-2-none-TEST.fcpxml returned no clips
This may be because the project was empty, contained only disabled audio or because all roles were de-selected

Suggestions:
- Ensure that the file is not locked by another application and is readable;
- Ensure that this is a valid FCP XML file from a released version of FCP X;
- Ensure that this is the export of a Project, not of an Event;
- Ensure that this is not an empty project (or that all audio is disabled);

I have followed the troubleshoot advice above and still have the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Great! Thanks Graeme! the workaround succeeded and we are off and running again. Turns out this episode i am editing was using old footage i was unaware had been imported with FCP X 10.0.5. Just want to say thanks to you and your team for great support on these issues!

Colin,

That's good to hear because we know a way of getting FCP X to sort it then. Unfortunately I'm afraid I no longer have the video I was offering you 7 months ago, but I can give you simple instructions.

1. !!Make sure that you back-up your projects and events file before doing any of this!!
2. Leave the clips in the FCP X event, but move the mov files from the event folder on the hard disk to another folder (e.g. desktop). This should make all the clips in the event go offline.
3. Relink all the clips in the event to the mov files in their new location. Once those clips are back online, an FCPXML export should work as expected and X2Pro will be able to process it.

Let me know if you need any clarification on any of the steps. If not, let us know how you get on.
