I checked that X2Pro can work with some large RED clips that span multiple files that we have here, and it can, but it clearly has problems working with the RED clip that you have supplied.
I have created a ticket on our internal system (TS7034) and will keep you update with what we find.
I have a hunch that it might be because the version of the RED SDK that we are using is not new enough to support your files, but I'll have to wait for confirmation of that from the development team.
Unfortunately, the only workaround that I can see at the moment is to convert your RED clips to something else like MOVs, perhaps using a RED tool or compressor. It is a bit fiddly, but another way might be to:

- Backup your project AND media files first!
- Get Final Cut to create "optimised" media for your RED files
- Make the original RED media offline (e.g. move it, or remove the drive)
- Make copies of the "optimised media"
- Get final cut to relink to these copies of the optimised media.

These were shot on a RED scarlet-w in 5k ff. When backing up the rushes I just do a straight copy from my RED mag to the drive.
As FCPX supports a native .r3d workflow I haven't taken them through REDCINE-X or anything else. The file structure will be as they were made in camera apart from my sub folder names to organise the rushes [interviews etc]
Let me know if you need anything else.

Can you please tell me how these files were created?
I'm interested in what RED camera they were recorded on, how they were take off the camera and put on your drive, whether anything else did anything to them between the camera and FCP, etc.

The drive is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The smallest file I have in the sequence is 12gb - with my upload speed I could probably get that up in about 15-20 mins. Do you have an FTP I can plug into or I can put it on my cloud and send a link.
Thanks,
Josh

Josh,
I think we might need to take a look at one of your RED clips along with your fcpxml. How big is the smallest one that doesn't get put in the AAF?
Do you know what format the drive is that contains your RED clips? (e.g. "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", "FAT32", "ExFAT", etc)

Hi Graeme,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Ok, so I tried that and am still getting the same problem. I have also tried going through every single RED rushes folder and connecting these individually but still getting the same issue.
I have also tried creating an AAF from a few different .r3d projects housed on different drives but always get the same error message.
Once opening the AAF at the post production house all the interview files are greyed out - it has the skeleton framework but no actual media. The only thing thats worked is the soundtrack layer which was a separate .wav file.
Thanks again.
Josh

Hi Josh,
Sorry, I missed your last post. I do have a new idea: Can you please try adding the system root (usually called "Macintosh HD") to your media locations and try converting the fcpxml again? I think this might be something to do with the fact that your RED clips span multiple files, and I think that might work around it.

Do you have any media locations set? If so, can you remove all of them and try again? When you try to convert it now, does it prompt for media locations?

Hi Graeme,
Yes its all connected - screen grab attached.
All files are present on that drive and online within FCPX. When I try and force it to make the AAF the file appears to be empty 566kb.
Thanks,
Josh
