PS: Using the H264 from the MASTERING SECTION and not from PUBLISHING will enable the ability to use the menu "roles as". It can be a good way to exclude some audio (ROLE) in your reference movie. It's sometime useful for the mixer (you ;) ) not to ear some audio in the reference movie.

Everyone's workflow is different, but yours proposed ones seems to make sense. Those are useful tips from Martin.

In addition to what Martin has said:
- You are right; there is no way of exporting from Final Cut X to Pro Tools without using additional software (such as X2Pro).
- X2Pro will put the audio from your project in an AAF that Pro Tools can open, but it won't include the video. If you need reference video/audio in Pro Tools, you must export this separately (e.g. share to H.264 file then import this into Pro Tools after opening the AAF).
- X2Pro will run on Yosemite and Sierra, and can convert fcpxmls from both FCP X 10.2.3 and 10.3. Something to be aware of though is that X2Pro has better support for retimed clips if the fcpxml version is 1.6, but FCP 10.2.3 can only export v1.5 fcpxmls. In either case, X2Pro will include the audio in the AAF at it's original speed so that it can be adjusted properly in Pro Tools.

Yes it's the idea.
1.Be care to assign audio roles or subroles to audio component before exporting.
2;Be care with retimed clips (that is now send to special track called "retimed.Orignal role name" by X2Pro).
3. embeded audio is better (referenced media could be problematic for multitrack audio with ProTools)
X2toPro will give you an AFF (and not an OMF).
if you can understand french, here is a free PDF... (second chapter)

if you don't read french, maybe it can be useful just to watch grabs... like in a manga ;) Better than nothing.

I will be honest as a Newb to FCP, but as a senior sound mixer, that I am used to OMF xfer. I need an easy process to xfer audio in sync to projects from FCP. What I understand is that it is necessary to have an external software to facilitate this export? And in 2 stages? please correct me if I am wrong.
Step one: Make a workprint output of the video timeline and temp mix, add a generator that spits out VTC as window burn, then share that. It creates a workprint with reference audio that i can import into my PT session
Step two:: export an XML file that X2Pro converts into essentially an OMF media file that PT 12 can import?
Is this correct?
I have 3 editing/mix suites: 1 laptop running Yosemite and FCP 10.2.3, 1 iMac same config, 1 Imac running sierra and FCP10.3
Any input would be greatly appreciated as I really dont want to mix/sweeten in FCP
Thank you!
