It is possible that if you import it into FCPX and then export it again the issue might come back, we aren't really sure. It all comes down to if its a consistent problem with Final Cut or if its random. Annoyingly its also possible the xml wont have the same reference numbers so the fix might not be in the exact same location.
You could always try it I suppose, I would recommend making a copy of the fcpxml if you want to try putting it into FCP X again.

The developer found a reference to one of the many clips called "Scene sync clip" which was trying to link to nothing (really weird). So we manually edited the fcpxml so it no longer crashes X2Pro and should hopefully work fine. Find attached the edited FCPXML :)

No problem!
Its gone through Final Cut Pro X, then Final Cut Pro 7 and I'm now using Final Cut Pro X again to export.
MAC: High Sierra 10.13.3
FCPX: 10.4.3

We are able to reproduce the same issue here, so I have asked one of the developers to take a look at it.
Has your xml been through any other products or has it only come from FCPX? What version of MacOS, FCP X and X2Pro are you using?

It's hard to know what the issue is without looking into it, would you be able to send us the xml file and if possible a copy of your Macs console log after X2Pro crashes?
