We're working on supporting extraction of audio from r3d files in X2Pro. It would be great if we could get a few samples from users who want this feature.
Is anyone able to supply some R3D sample files? I can give FTP details if necessary.

I had a quick look for a solution and found that REDCINE-X PRO will create a reference mov that points to the original R3D file. Editing with these files could be a bit painful (it makes FCP X very slow), but you may be able to somehow unlink the clips from the R3Ds and relink to the reference MOVs created by REDCINE-X PRO and then export the FCPXML.
It's not something I have tried, but it's a thought...

Hi Alan,
At the moment X2Pro is not able to extract audio from R3D files, so any project containing audio from R3D files will show the message that you are seeing.
To get a bit more technical; X2Pro uses the Quicktime API to extract audio which is why one of the suggestions is to verify that "the media can be played using QuickTime player".
Just an idea: It may be possible to get it to work if there is a codec for QuickTime that allows it to play R3D files?

Alan Seawright created the topic: RED Workflow issues
Been trying to export this morning, and keep running up against this problem:
"Opening audio extractor for portion 0 of asset [A002_C022_1117ZH]
Failed to open audio extractor
Error Opening asset (/Volumes/Macintosh HD 2/Current Projects/CityWide M_I/CW_DAY01/A005/A002_1117W0.RDM/A002_C022_1117ZH.RDC/A002_C022_1117ZH_001.R3D) with QuickTime (The file is not a movie file.) [-2048] []
Suggestion: Please ensure that:
- the media file has not been moved or deleted;
- you have added its location to the Media Locations in preferences;
- the media file can be played using QuickTime player.
No AAF file has been generated."
Are RED files not supported through X2Pro yet, or is there something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
