Pro Tools is unable to work properly with multi channel wav files. Because X2Pro is primarily used for creating files to be opened with Pro Tools, if you choose to "Reference WAV files in place", but your project contains multi channel wavs, X2Pro issues the warning you are seeing. If it didn't do this, you may open your project in Pro Tools and wonder why some of the clips are offline.

There are two options in the preferences (under the Media Handling section) that will stop this message appearing:
  • Reference multi-channel WAV files - You should only use this option if you know that your DAW supports multi channel WAV files. Pro Tools 10 does not.
  • Handling media that can't be referenced - By default this is set to "Generate an error and don't create AAF file", but if you change it to "Embed the media, optionally trimming", it will stop the error message, and will embed any multi channel WAVs as mono WAVs. If you don't want to embed all the audio and are using Pro Tools, this is the better option for Pro Tools.
Let me know if this helps?

Regarding the Pro Tools crash:
  1. What version of Pro Tools is it?
  2. Are you running Pro Tools on Mac or Windows?
  3. Does it give you any information as to why it crashed?
  4. Could you supply screen grabs of any crash messages?
  5. Would you be able to provide the AAF for us to look at?

EditorLiam created the topic: Error Generating AAF
FCPX Version 10.0.7
X2PRO Version 2.1.2

When I attempt to create an AAF with (Reference WAV Files in Place) CHECKED - I get the following error

Writing AAF file
Getting audio characteristics for asset [A046_C006_1212E4]
Error trying to create reference for asset (not a WAV file or too many audio channels)

No AAF file has been generated.

When I attempt to create an AAF files with this option NOT CHECKED
An AAF File is Generated, but it will not import into ProTools, it crashes the program every time an import is attempted.

My Audio guy is pretty sure that Reference WAV Files SHOULD BE CHECKED and that it would result in a working AAF.
Not sure how to Proceed.
