HI,

I think we are good for now. Thank you for your help.

The upload timed out several times so I gave up on the FTP transfer. I went intoFCP and selected all of the clips and created a new project in which I pasted the timeline clips then output a XML. Convert to AAF and Pro Tools took it no problem. I noticed a half dozen tracks did not make it, but we are adding them back by hand.

All good here. Thanks again

jeff

Jeff,

Glad you got it working. In the interest of completeness, I tried converting your FCPXML without the media and that opened in Pro Tools without issue. Then I tried download your AAF, but the file was only 510MB, so I suspect the upload didn't complete and for that reason I wasn't able to open it in Pro Tools.

It would be good to understand what caused the original issue, but for that I think we would need all your source clips, so if you are happy that you got it working in the end, are you happy for me to stop investigating what went wrong?

Hi Graeme,

I fiddled around with things and got it to work. I cut and pasted the entire timeline into a new FCPX project and then exported a XML. XML to AAF via X2 Pro and then Pro Tools imported it perfectly.

Go figure.

I really appreciate the help!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I have sent you a private message with FTP login details for you to upload the AAF

I will take a look at the FCPXML now.

There is no way for a user to convert the FCPXML without the event clips, but our developers are able to convert it in a "debug" version without the clips. This creates an AAF with invalid pointers to audio which wouldn't be of much use to a normal user, but could be useful in this case to help check whether it is the structure of the AAF that is causing a problem.

if you are able to get the xml to convert and into Pro Tools without the audio attached, could you give me instructions on how to do that here and how to get the audio into Pro Tools separately?

Many Thanks!

Jeff

I am in the middle of the night here so it will be several hours (of sleep) before I can reply.

I will try sending the AAF to see if it works.

HI Graeme,

I am using PT 10.3.5

The file 2.69 GB

Here is the XML. Can you receive the AAF (2.69GB)?

What version of Pro Tools are you trying to open the AAF in? I would be happy to take a look at the AAF (I can provide private FTP details), but I assume at 131 minutes, it could be quite large?

Perhaps you could attach your FCPXML and I could try converting that (without the audio) and opening it in Pro Tools to see if I get the same error?

Update: I searched the forum and found that un-clicking the "reference WAV files in place" option is the correct method. I did this and trimmed audio. Recreated the AFF and still having crashing problems with Pro Tools when ingesting session data.

wiumworks created the topic: Pro Tools crashing on AAF import
I am making an AAF of a 131 minute film cut on FCPX. When I make the AAF in X2Pro with "reference WAV files in place" checked I get following error message-

Writing AAF file
Getting audio characteristics for asset [PA6-2181_01]
Error trying to create reference for asset (not a WAV file or too many audio channels)

No AAF file has been generated.

What do I need to do to get it to read the above file?

Trying another route, when I uncheck "reference WAV files in place", the AAF is generated, but when I import it to Pro Tools 10.3.5, Pro Tools crashes when I am at the "import session data" stage. When I try to launch directly from the AAF file, PT also crashes.

Please advise. On deadline. thanks in advance
