X2Pro has access to anything within the folder that is added to the media locations, including in any subdirectories, so you can tell him to select the folder that his library is in (probably "Movies").
Possibly even better than that, if he adds his main hard drive to the media locations (probably called "Macintosh HD" unless it has ever been changed), he won't ever have to add any other media locations, as every file on his system (including any mounted network drives or external drives) is available in a subdirectory of his main hard drive.

Hi , I'm trying to help solve this problem for a friend who is trying to generate AAF files for me. I use Pro Tools and I'm not familiar with X2Pro or FCPX. Below is his message to me re: the problem of selecting the media location, he says the library folder is grayed out. Any ideas?
It tells me to give permission for the program to
access media files in specific folders. Only problem is that all my media
is stored in a FCPX 10.2.1 LIBRARY that contains everything and X2Pro does
not recognize the library file as a folder.
