That does sound like it would be a pain. If you have proxies for every clip then it may be possible to edit the fcpxml to point to the proxies which X2Pro should be able to extract the audio from. Let me know if this sounds like a better option?

X2Pro uses QTKit at the moment, but we plan to move over to AVFoundation at some point.
You're right; as a result of using QTKit, X2Pro can't extract PCM audio from from MP4 files.
Because QTKit can read PCM audio from mov files, and an MP4 is basically a mov, you can work around it by changing the file extension of your MP4s to .MOV and re-linking them in FCP. This is the best workaround we have found, so far, for this issue.

I think I've nailed it..
If the video file is a mp4 file with H.264 video and PCM Linear audio, IT WILL FAIL.
If the video file is a mp4 file with H.264 and AAC audio, IT WILL WORK.
Any thoughts ?

I also have this problem.
Only with some mp4 files. They will not play in QT7 but QT10 and FCPX is okay.
so right now I do X2pro for the other stuff, and export this type of files as roles and audio only.
No good.
Does X2Pro use old QT calls when doing its stuff ? or have you gone the AV-foundation route ?

X2Pro is normally able to work with MP4 files. I suspect there is something strange with that particular MP4 file, but without examining it here, I can't be sure.
Thanks for letting me know that you were able to work around it

X2Pro is unable to extract the audio from one of your clips.
The clip is called "C0089.mp4" and is in the folder "/Amy P @ UCB/media/FCPX/Amy P. - Yes Please!.fcpbundle/9-4-14/Original Media/" on a drive called "JJ_006".
Can you play that mp4 file in QuickTime Player 7? If you only have QuickTime Player X, you can download QuickTime player 7 from support.apple.com/kb/DL923

I just purchased X2Pro and tried using it with FCP 10.1.2 and it doesn't work for me.
This is the error code I keep getting:
Writing AAF file
Adding assets to AAF file
Adding essence for asset [C0089] to AAF file
Opening audio extractor for portion 0 of asset [C0089]
Failed to open audio extractor
Error Opening asset (/Volumes/JJ_006/Amy P @ UCB/media/FCPX/Amy P. - Yes Please!.fcpbundle/9-4-14/Original Media/C0089.mp4) with QuickTime (An invalid sample description was found in the movie.) [-2041] []
Suggestion: Please ensure that:
- the media file has not been moved or deleted;
- you have added its location to the Media Locations in preferences;
- the media file can be played using QuickTime player.
No AAF file has been generated.
