It's likely that is the reason; the audio is probably "missing" rather than "silent".
QuickTime Player 10 and FCP X use Apple's AudioFoundation framework to play media files, but QuickTime Player 7 X2Pro use Apple's QTKit framework. It's likely that AudioFoundation can cope with this file, but QTKit can't which is why I suggested trying it in QuickTime Player 7 (which is still available for download from Apple even if your system already has QuickTime 10 installed.)
The X2Pro development team are working on changing from QTKit to AVFoundation, so the next update may be able to handle this type of file.

We use Quicktime player version 10 and i can play that file.
Its an old clip from the archives transcoded to a proress 422 (size around 40 gig). Strange is that the file has audio in the beginning (in an intro) but the rest (like 99%) is completely silent.
Maybe that is why he gives me that error?

Unfortunately that doesn't tell me much more, apart from that QTKit (the apple framework that X2Pro uses to extract the audio) didn't like the file.
Do you have QuickTime Player 7? If so, are you able to play the clip in that?

Without seeing the error message, and maybe the fcpxml, I can't tell you.
Can you please copy the text from the error message and paste it into this thread?

I keep getting this error saying i must transcode a .mov first before the aaf will be made. I looked it up in the xml and its this file:
<asset id="r79" name="Prins Bernhard" uid="CBE4E9A8F8CB8CAD311B12485E80C9BF" src="file:///Volumes/Sarphati%209/-3%20Vorstinnen%20van%20Oranje%20afl%202%20+%20afl%203/AFL%203%20Juliana/AFL%203%20Juliana.fcpbundle/27-07-15/Original%20Media/Prins%20Bernhard.mov" start="0s" duration="5890s" hasVideo="1" format="r23" hasAudio="1" audioSources="1" audioChannels="2" audioRate="48000">
Why do i need to transcode it first? Ive deleted the clips in my timeline as a workaround and it works fine now but still.
