Hi Graeme,

You are correct in assuming that I meant "media locations" when I referred to adding files to the top. I'm going to try the find and replace and see if that works.

Honestly, if it does work, it's a lifesaver. I don't edit video, just audio, so it could save tons of time for work I'm getting from FCP. I have no problem with Premiere Pro and Media Composer, but I know I will be getting more work in FCP in the future.

Thanks for helping.

Hi,

The fcpxml that is created by FCP contains paths to the media files, and also "bookmarks" to the media files that allow applications like X2Pro to access media files that are outside of the application's "sandbox" without the user having to specifically allow access to them. Sometimes the bookmarks aren't enough, and in this case, the user will have to add some folders to the "media locations" section of X2Pro in order for X2Pro to be able to be able to access the media files.

X2Pro is designed to be run on the same machine that FCP is running on. If you are running X2Pro on a different machine to FCP, then it's likely that the paths to the media files in the fcpxml will not be correct.

If you must run X2Pro on a different machine to FCP (an unsupported workflow), it may be possible to fix the paths in the fcpxml manually by doing a find/replace operation on file paths using a text editor like TextEdit (included in OS X), but this would break any "bookmarks" in the fcpxml, so you will also need to add the folders containing media files to the "media locations".

I'm not sure what you mean by "I add my folders to the top", but I think you might mean that you added them to the "Media Locations". If so, then you're part way there, but you still need to edit the paths in the fcpxml so that they point to the correct location of the media files on your machine.

I have an fcpxml file that was given to me by a client. It has the folders where their files were located, of course. I have the files located in a (different) folder on my Mac. I add my folders to the top, but the files still show inaccessible. Can I get this to work? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Dave O.
