Q: "how do you identify the common denominator in these shots"

A: I don't know, I don't know how they were created, imported, edited, etc, and I see no pattern to it. It's not a fault of X2Pro though; FCP X won't even re-import it.

Q: "Secondly how to make the next 3 xmls healthy ones by identifying possible rogue clips."

A: I could explain it, but it's pretty complicated and involves searching using regular expressions and manually editing the xml. It's not a particularly easy thing to do. I would focus on figuring out whay this happens and stopping it at source. If you are aware of regular expression syntax we could show you what we searched for in order to find the lines that need fixing.

It may be worth you trying to reproduce the issue, by doing what you did with one of the clips that Graeme reported back as being missing some information in a new project by itself, and see if you get the same error. that way you can figure out how it is being made incorrectly.

Also, you may have already done this, but it may be good to check in Pro Tools around the timecodes that Graeme provided and make sure you are getting the correct audio based on the "fixed" XML that he provided back to you.

The clips that doesn't have enough information are:
10:00:36:08: NI0982_01
10:00:54:15: NI1424_01
10:00:56:07: NI1424_01
10:03:13:08: NI0016_01
10:03:15:05: NI0018_01
10:04:48:12: NI0007_01
10:28:08:03: Driving shots
10:28:09:13: Drugs on the kitchen counter
10:28:22:14: NI1041_01
10:34:22:17: Drugs on the kitchen counter

Thanks for this, your xml worked fine but I am still having difficulties with mine despite deleting and reinserting these clips.
The project has been a long time in edit due to its subject matter so it may have had shots ingested differently in some way unfortunately there are 3 more episodes all of which I expect will present similar problems.
In the end the risk of omitting sound for the dub forced me to spend a long day and night going back to Fcp7 for a conventional tracklay (using Xto7 which read the Xml fine)
I know your software works but how to identify the specific problem is difficult.
Two things how do you identify the common denominator in these shots, if it isn't any of the suggested ones DaVinci etc ..
Secondly how to make the next 3 xmls healthy ones by identifying possible rogue clips.

This looks very similar to the issue reported in this thread

Basically your fcpxml is invalid; FCP X won't even import it. It doesn't contain all the information that it should for 9 audio tracks.

The clips that doesn't have enough information are:
  1. 10:00:36:08: NI0982_01
  2. 10:00:54:15: NI1424_01
  3. 10:00:56:07: NI1424_01
  4. 10:03:13:08: NI0016_01
  5. 10:03:15:05: NI0018_01
  6. 10:04:48:12: NI0007_01
  7. 10:28:08:03: Driving shots
  8. 10:28:09:13: Drugs on the kitchen counter
  9. 10:28:22:14: NI1041_01
  10. 10:34:22:17: Drugs on the kitchen counter

If you remove these from your project and re-add them, it may allow you to work around it. Alternatively I have attached an edited version of your fcpxml that will convert using X2Pro and will also import into FCP X.

  • Is there anything that you did differently to these 10 clips, compared to all the others?
  • Has your project been touched by tools other than FCP X,for example DaVinci?

Please advise on this message. I just tried a few test files ( creating a new project and sending to Xtopro) and they work fine but my main project is due to be dubbed this week and I am really anxious about getting it out of FCPX.
Please help!
