X2Pro version 3 (with MTS support) has just been released in the app store as a free upgrade

MADE IT

After 48hrs of uninterrupted tedious, painful work of reconnecting files and manually rebuilding compound clips. I made it. I have my 20GB AAF file, which come with this report.

What I learned from this? 1) that x2PRO needs a serious and quick update (AVCHD is professional standard widely used) to deliver its promise 2) In case of library organised in multiple events and compound clips...do not point relinking to the "high quality media" folder, go straight to the "optimised folder" 3) If you know in advance what you are going to face, convert your .mts before starting your project and do not import them...just convert and then import them

ANOTHER UPDATE

After hours of manual relinking...I got to the core of the problem, a bunch of compound clips which can't be reconnected to the .mov file (incompatible media error)...I really don't know what to do now...

All the files have been converted to .mov (either proxy and optimised). I have clips in multiple folders and sub-folders, given that my library was built around a 20 day long shooting session, it means that I have clips with the same name...i.e. I have 6 00000.mts...(of course in different folders, whose name is 02-0X-2015). This creates big problems in using your method. You suggest to "show package contents" in the library, and relink files from the "high quality media" folder which is filled just with alias files. In my case, this leads to 6 files names 00000.mts...even considering the tag (fcpx1).mts, added by the system in the name, manually relinking is very difficult. So I tried to do it pointing to the "proxy file" folder (which keeps the same subfolders structure of the original media folder).
At the moment, I'm stuck in the middle of the mud...because I donno why I can't relink file into the compound clips (audio/video syncronized togheter)...switching from mts to mov....

BTW Can you imagine how difficult is to manually relink 1000 clips or so?

Thank you for your help but this is a nightmare...I mean I know that every software has its own problems...but .mts is a wide used file in the editing world!

In your video (thank you again btw) you have one clip from one event...in my project I have multiple events and maybe 1000 clips not just in mts but also wav, mp3 and bla bla bla...

X2PROLE returns me this: Error Opening asset (/Volumes/G-NicoDrive/EBOLA KILLA DIZEZ/New Media Folder/Final Cut Original Media/2015-02-11/00073.mts) with QuickTime (The file is not a movie file.) [-2048] []

...so why X2PRO keeps on giving me the usual error message??? I just attached the xml...would you mind giving a look to it?

In the beginning I thought 00073.mts hadn't been optimised and instead I have its original, proxy and otimised (3 green light in the inspector windows...) so what's up?

BTW I think that your way around can't work for libraries as big as mine...let me try something and I will let you know why

Hi Nico,

The audio in both the "Optimized" and the "Proxy" clips that FCP creates are both the same quality as the original media. It's only the video that is changed in them, so relinking to them so that you can export using X2Pro should result in no loss of quality.

There is a feature request for X2Pro to support MTS files, but unfortunately I don't know when that will be implemented.

In order to relink the clips in your project to the Optimized or Proxy versions, you can try the following steps:

1. Backup your project and media files first!
2. Make a copy of the "High Quality Media" or "Proxy Media" folder somewhere otherwise FCP X will delete them before it relinks and then it will try to relink to a non-existent file and you'll just get black clips.
3. Relink all the clips by having the project open and choosing "File">"Relink Files...". Choose "All" and press the "Locate All..." button. Browse to the copy of "High Quality Media" or "Proxy Media" folder and click the "Choose" button with all the files selected.
4. Click the "Relink Files" button and your project should then used those MOVs and you should be was able to export the project as an fcpxml and convert it using X2Pro.

You refers to Proxy and Optimised media as the would be the same thing and they are not at least inside the FCPX environment.
Do you mean that pointing to proxy (which are .mov the same) to go around the .mts problem will have the same output in term of audio quality? This is very important to know because with proxy everything is faster

First of all thank you for you help.

I'm very confused. I mean I perfectly understand the problem but I really don't know how to tell FCPX to point to the optimised version of this 00070 file not to the original. I've tried to hide the 00070 but FCPX always finds it.
Most of all, I haven't mention that I'm talking about a 1/2 TB library (it is an hour long documentary) and I'm afraid that once fixed the 00070 problem, another one related to another file will pop up! There is no way I can relink all the files, it takes days...

So the question is: How can I tell to FCPX to use only the clips from the optimised media folder? not to use the original one?
From the upper right corner of the visor I can switch to proxy but I can't find a way to switch to optimized ones...
Unfortunately the project grew up in my hand and so I had to transcode media along the way, so maybe some files can still be without its own "partner".


PS: BTW X2PRO developers should fix this mts problem...XT2PRO is supposed to speed up the workflow improving sharing and cooperation not to slow it down! Not to mention that .mts is a leading formati for HD

FCP X tries to use the highest resolution or quality of a file that it has in the timeline, so if it knows that there is a MTS file that is higher resolution, then it will reference that file in the XML. even if you specifically point to the other versions of the file.

The only way you can get X2Pro to reference the proxy or transcoded version of the file is to move the mts file from it's current location to a folder that FCP X has not history of. Then FCP X can be made to relink the MTS files to the Proxy or transcoded file and you should be good to go.

1 thing i must point out, is that in order for FCP X to not re-make the Proxy or transcoded files again, you will need to move the proxy or transcoded files, from the original location. So when you click the relink files button after you move the MTS file, it will use the already created file instead of make a new one.

Here are a couple Forum threads that had similar instances and where we were able to resolve things in the end.

*A user on this forum post was able use a workaround (using clipwrap to losslessly convert the MTS file to a MOV). This may be the easiest solution.

*There is also a forum thread ( www.x2pro.net/forum/4-media-and-formats/769-audio-extractor-error.html ) where we were helping a user to have X2Pro extract the audio from proxy/optimised clips that FCP X had created. I think there are two workarounds in that thread, one is to get FCP X to relink to the proxy/optimised clips, and the other was to manually edit the fcpxml.

Hi everybody,
I'm a fresh user of X2PROLE, I just bought to send to my audio guy an AAF File (he uses PROTOOLS)...

As you can see from the attached screenshot, X2PRO returns me an error message about 00070.mts file. I know that X2PRO doesn't work with .mts but all the media should have been trascoded by FCPX plus in .mov. Anyway, I find the 00070 clip in my event browser and I transcoded it again.
In the X2PROLE preferences I restricted the media location to proxy and optimizide file folders...but as you can see from the error message, X2PROLE keeps on going to the original media folder...
My audio guy is waiting for the AAF file and I don't know what to do. I tried to read other posts in this forum, unfortunately there are too many posts of "chatting" before getting to the point..so I got lost and I decide to write...hopefully someone can help me...
