What you are asking about is an unsupported workflow. X2Pro is designed to work with the original media because that is all that the fcpxml references. There are ways to coerce X2Pro into using proxy files, but if you decide to try it, make sure you backup your projects and media files first.

To make X2Pro use proxies rather than original media, you can either:
  • Open the fcpxml file in a text editor and use find/replace to change file references from the original media files to the proxies
  • Backup your project and media files then make copies of the proxy files and tell FCP to relink to the copies and then re-export the fcpxml. Do not relink to the proxy versions in the location that FCP created them. You must relink to copies of them otherwise they will be deleted by FCP and you will end up with no media at all!

Awesome...standing by.

Oh, and I had already given the app access to my media. I know the preference you're talking about. I had to add my disk at the beginning, since I'm using an external HDD that contains my library.

Cheers.

Yecid,
Let me respond to you and Graeme is already out of the office for the day
There is a new version of X2Pro on the Mac App store, you should be able to upgrade your app from there.
The Media Locations that Graeme mentioned is in Preferences of the X2Pro app. With the app open you can use the key board shortcut of Command+comma. The Media Locations is used to give access to the app to your FCP Project media.

I will be checking with the software developers on the question concerning proxies that you asked, and we will get back to you asap.

Thanks, Graeme. Yes, I would like to know if I can extract the audio from the proxies when the original media is offline.
Answers.
1. I'm using X2Pro v 2.5.1 which I bought and downloaded from the Mac App Store two days ago. Is that the most current version?
2. I'm using FCPX 10.2.1
3. OS X is 10.10.5 Yosemite
4. Not sure what your #4 question is.
5. NO. None of my original .r3d media (including the one you and the XML mention) are on my "EAPV Post 4TB" drive. Only the Library with symlinks and the proxies reside in that drive. All original .r3d's are in eight 2TB drives which I can't connect all at once at the moment. I will eventually consolidate just the media used in my timeline into a 4TB drive and send it to audio post. I understand x2Pro will work normally when I do that, but BEFORE I do that we want to do tests of our workflow with only proxies...especially since we'll be sending various previous cuts and excerpts to audio post prior to sending the locked and consolidated cut.

If you could point me to the answer (or the correct thread) regarding the latest workaround to extract the audio from the proxies instead of the originals, it would be super helpful.

Again, thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Yecid,

X2Pro doesn't have any issues with proxies (apart from the fact that it doesn't use them). The fcpxml doesn't contain any information about proxies, so X2pro has to use the original media. (Perhaps this is what you mean... Are you expecting to use X2Pro to extract audio from proxies, when the original media is offline?)
  1. What version of X2Pro are you using?
  2. What version of FCP are you using?
  3. What version of OS X are you using?
  4. Do you have an media locations set.
  5. Does the file called "A038_C006_0814TD_001.r3d" exist on the drive called "EAPV Post 4TB" in the folder "/EAPV FCP X Project 01.fcpbundle/EAPV Footage/Original Media/A038_C006_0814TD/"?

Yecid,
I can't help you with your issue but I see you're using 2.5.1. I just upgraded to 3.0.2 and it doesn't seem to be working for me at all (an XML I converted to AAF worked fine in 2.5.1 but not 3.0.2). Where did you download this version please? I'm trying to get back to what I had.

Thank you
Margot

Yecid Benavides Jr. created the topic: X2Pro 2.5.1 not finding .r3d clip audio
Hi,

I just purchased X2Pro, tried converting a Test Project FCPXML in order to finalise our workflow, and it gives me the following error:

Writing AAF file
Adding assets to AAF file
Adding essence for asset [A038_C006_0814TD] to AAF file
Opening audio extractor for portion 0 of asset [A038_C006_0814TD]
Failed to open audio extractor
Error Failed to open [file:///Volumes/EAPV%20Post%204TB/EAPV%20FCP%20X%20Project%2001.fcpbundle/EAPV%20Footage/Original%20Media/A038_C006_0814TD/A038_C006_0814TD_001.r3d]

Suggestion: Ensure that the file exists

No AAF file has been generated.
==========

I did my research in the forums and found that there seems to be a problem when using proxies, which is my case. However, the clip it says it's having problems with is NOT the first clip in my timeline (thus not the first clip in the XML either). This seems weird to me, and whatever the reason for this, I would like to have a solution that does not involve a workaround, or if that's inevitable, one that doesn't have a time-consuming workaround. I am working on a feature with over 16TB of EPIC 5K and RED MX 4.5K footage which in turn gave me about 2TB of proxies (5,000+ clips). I'm attaching the XML.
