Dear Robin,

Apologies for the delay in responding, we have an issue with the software signature for the new software which we are talking to App Store about. In the meantime would you be able to upload a small sample of your 8k r3d and we will test it here. Will mail ftp details separately.

Yours Sincerely

James

Any updates on when 1.2.1 may go live or how to access the beta? I’m grappling with 8K r3d footage and spanned clips that Worx4x doesn’t seem to handle right now.

Dear Chrismans,

Fundamentally there is no real api for FCPX, so you can't get it to transcode automatically via an app. So the options then are either to manually transcode or to implement a transcode in the app, which would be expensive. Having spoken to the Product Manager we will be seeing Apple in the near future and we will bring this up with them.

Yours Sincerely

James

Thanks for your answer James, Is there any reason why an option to transcode the MXF footage to ProRes with handles couldn't be implemented? This would be such a great option to have.

Dear Chrismans,

We have a new version for testing (1.2.1) that supports newer versions of the RED sdk (7.2.0), so don't worry we haven't forgotten Worx4X.

Regarding opening files for trimming we are essentially tied to use Apples AVFoundation, and RED for .r3d files. So if the file is .r3d in the current release we will support Red 7.1.0, for everything else we use AVFoundation and if AVFoundation cannot extract from or create a trimmed file we then have to copy the file in its entirety. AVFoundation will not create .mxf files so until it does we cannot support them being trimmed. I have spoken to the Product Manager and essentially to add support for mxf files without using AVFoundation is a rather large block of development work that would make the product prohibitively expensive.

We will ask Apple again, but it would also be a great help if you as an Apple customer requested they look at supporting mxf files in AVFoundation.

Yours sincerely

James

Hi there back in V1.0 it was stated the Worx4X was unable to trim certain files wth handles and that the entire clip would be copied. The common file format .MXF was included in this. My understanding was that this was blamed on the Apple Media kit.
In Davinci Resolve we have the option to then transcode the media to ProRes with handles which is almost the same option we had in FCP7 using the media manager tool. I was wondering if this would be an option for Worx4x? its been a very long time between updates and it does feel like this tool is somewhat forgotten
