Dear Brit,

Can you please confirm that the error message you posted initially was actually for the ROUGHCUTFINAL.xml ? The reason I question it, is that the asset it is struggling to access is labelled as "1" and all assets in ROUGHCUTFINAL begin with "r". If you run ROUGHCUTFINAL again can you send us the error message you now get.

Many thanks

James

darn still having trouble figuring out how to isolate the error (it's not a mono issue) - appreciate you not giving up on me

If there are some clips which have unsupported audio in them the best way forward is to run them through a format converter and get them into a supported format and then splice the new audio in instead of the ones that don't work.

hey Tim, the alternate XML didn't help. I also gave root access to the drive. I have one hopeful note, which is I tried a fresh fcp project and tried a few random clips and those managed to export as an aaf fine. i'm noticing sometimes a clip i grab works, sometimes it doesn't. always with the same error. so perhaps it is an issue related to a specific audio type? the project is made of various different video formats

Have you added a Media Location of the root of the drive in the Preferences? Does the alternative XML version help?

thanks again it tried those steps with no luck, including manually exporting previous xml version. attached is my manual media location window as well.

i'm worried now, is there a way to get refund if it doesn't work? or how does the rest of the world do this? my deadline is tomorrow

That was just an example from the XML file. Have you tried adding / as a media location. It seems that X2Pro is not being allowed to access the files.
You could also test by re-importing the XML into an empty project and confirm that it re-links OK as sometimes FCP can export rather bad XMLs.
Final option is to export a different XML version, FCP always has the option to export as the latest supported XML version and the previous version (eg V8 and V7) and sometimes the previous version will work where the latest will not.

wow thanks for the quick reply. Yes I went in and confirmed that this file (Untitled.mov) exists, plays and it's in the folder I gave X2pro access to. (interestingly this file is a screengrab which doesn't even have audio)

unless I should manually add it again somehow?

The relevant bit of the error is this:
The requested URL was not found on this server
That indicates that the path to the audio file is not correct. There are a number of possible reasons for this:
1) the disk with the audio is not connected
2) the disk has been renamed
3) the media has been moved

Does this file:
/Volumes/LaCie%201/myfiles/doc.fcpbundle/EDITS/Original%20Media/Untitled.mov
actually exist there and does X2Pro have permission to access it?
