I made a quick video that shows a failure to convert a project that uses an MTS file, and all the steps that I took to relink to the High Quality MOVs, followed by a successful conversion in X2Pro.

It's currently uploading, but when it's done (which should be about less than 30 minutes) you can see it at: www.dropbox.com/s/i60frwbqqa8wa3d/Relink%20MTS%20to%20MOV.mov?dl=0

You may want to download and save it for future reference because it won't be available at that location forever.

Greame,

It took a long time to make a copy of all the files. This morning, we are still trying to relink and it doesn't work, files are always linked to MTS, even when we show the folder with the.mov files.

Strange, we may do something wrong. Could detail a little bit more your process ?

Best wishes,

Fred

Fred, how did you get on with relinking the MTS files to the MOVs?

The one that contains the Hight Quality MOVs? I would copy that, but if you have a full backup, then moving it works too.

Remember to backup your project and media files, or at the very least duplicate your project before relinking

If you are going to try what I did then you should make a backup of your project first.

In order to relink to Transcoded Media, you need to make a copy of them somewhere else otherwise FCP X will remove them as it relinks and then try to relink to a non-existent file and you'll just get black clips. I just copied the "High Quality Media" folder to my desktop.

I was able to relink by having my project open and choosing "File">"Relink Files...". I then chose "All" and pressed the "Locate All..." button. Then I had to browse to the copy of "High Quality Media" folder and click the "Choose" button with the right files selected. Then the last step was to click the "Relink Files" button and my project then used those MOVs and I was able to export the project and put it through X2Pro.

Let me know if you decide to try this and how you get on?

Yes ! But our media are classified day by day. We have 19 days representing 19 different folders with high quality media in each folder.

If we could relink to these .mov, maybe we could export a FCPXML relating to .mov files and not MTS files.

Best wishes,

Fred

It is possible in FCP X to relink, and I just did a quick test here was was able to relink MTS clips to MOV files from the "High Quality Media" folder. Is it these "High Quality" MOV files that you want to relink to?

Graeme,

I had a look at the FCPX session. The project include MTS files AND .MOV files. Do you know if I can change the target of the project to .mov files instead of MTS files. We used to have a relink in FCP7, but things have changed so much in this new FCPX !!!

Best wishes,

Fred

Graeme,

I may tell you more about this when I'll be able to have a look at the FCPX project in my client machine, at the beginning of the afternoon.

I may try to relink the FCPX project to the .mov files, but I don't know if it's possible... except doing file by file...

News soon, best wishes,

Fred

Unfortunately I can't think of a workaround except for converting all your MTS files to something else like MOVs then replacing every MTS clip in your project with those new files. This is probably impractical because you have over 321 different mts files used in your project.

I'll let you know if I can think of another workaround, but I don't think it's likely.

If you are not using the audio from the MTS files (i.e. you are using separate audio files) you would be able to disable the audio from the MTS clips in FCP X and X2Pro would then convert the project, but I don't think that's the case from looking at your FCPXML.

Sorry I can't be more help.
